Falcon Model numbers

Post  garmit61@gmail.com on Sat Jan 05, 2019 2:02 pm

Hi there, Is there any guidance available on how to identify your model number? I have just received a replacement V5 for my Falcon which was registered in 1956 but there appears to be a large number of models and I'd like to identify which one I have. I have yet to start it up as the first job I had was to get the tank relined. I don't if it is a 3speed or 4speed box as I didn't even realise the 3 gear box existed.
Thanks
Gareth

I think JH will put you right but it would help if you print the frame number

Hi Gareth,
A good book it you haven't got yet is Francis-Barnett Coventry: The Complete Story by our late member, Arthur Gent. A must read IMO.

Your model number can be found by frame number and engine combination if your unsure by year of manufacturer on your v5. Engine number will confirm gearbox too.

Ediited, apologies as Ken already posted as I was slowly typing and drinking my tea 😀

Model of bike

According to my list that is a 1956 to 1957 Falcon 74 with an 8E.

Someone Aelse will verify it.

Thanks Ken,
So it is the same as the one on Page 34 of the Winter 2018 magazine. I certainly would look like that if it had been looked after better.

WM frame number denotes Falcon 74, 1956 year model, made between August 1955 and July 1956
070B engine coding is a Villiers 8E 3 speed as specified for that model of bike
