Double Lift Centre Stand Cruiser 80 / Cruiset 84.

Post  Miday on Thu Dec 27, 2018 3:21 pm

Hi
I am Mike Daykin, FBOC Librarian.
I have been looking through my literature considering your centre stand and have found a picture of an assembled one which shows you how it works and how to operate it in situ.
If you email me or ring me I will be able to help you by sending you a copy of the relevant instruction manual or just the stand page. My details in the Directory.
Best regards
Mike.

Cruiser 80 Hi-lift stand

Post  mike Sayer on Thu Dec 27, 2018 7:28 pm

Jim,
I know it won`t help you with your bike, but this might be a good time to mention I have detailed drawings of the individual parts & also detailed instructions for fitting the hi-lift stand for the Cruiser 84. Unfortunately the 80 & 84 do not have the same parts, but the principle is similar. It would be a labour of love for me to produce drawings for the parts & assembly of the stand used on the 80 if I were able to get my hands on one.
Mike. Cool

Greetings to Canada from sunny Essex, have a happy & healthy new year.

cams for the high lift

Post  Bigjim on Thu Dec 27, 2018 10:20 pm

Somewhere I posted drawings for the 2 styles of cams. As no one needed any, I didn't get any made.

Stand on Ebay

Post  piston 197 on Sun Dec 30, 2018 5:29 pm

Yes that would be the one i have put on Ebay, i believe it to be for a Cruiser 84 as it does not have the centre triangular pressing, as far as i can see the main difference from a Cruiser 80 one to an 84 one is the cam profile shape, as the 84 has a raised stop at the end of the cam and the Cruiser 80 does not , it has a fully rounded cam. Presumably if fitting to a Cruiser 80 the cam profile may need grinding off ?
But yes it is complete as an assembly and working

I also have a complete frame for a Cruiser 89 with centre stand, and it is possible to substitute the rear frame rails and stand from this frame and fit them to a Cruiser 80 and have the far more substantial stand that was used on the twin

sub frame etc

You can see where AMC got the idea for the G2/M14 subframe pressing idea from.

Think you will find the FB was using this from 1955 onwards in the model 71 and 75, ,before FB was fully controlled by AMC and were still making their own designs, a fully designed concept from the FB drawing office, it went on to be used from 1957 onwards on the Cruiser 80, all of these pre-dated the G2,14,8,G5 as well as Norton Jubilee, navigator and Electra.

I was alluding to FB being the inspiration.
