Stadium goggles

Post  John Wakefield on Sat Dec 08, 2018 9:29 am

I have a pair of old Stadium goggles for sale, (1960's) generally good condition but lenses have some delamination (new ones available from Halcyon) still usable or for show.
I am asking 25 including p&p

Stadium goggles

Post  piston 197 on Sat Dec 08, 2018 9:57 am

When i was 18 riding home on my bike at night i hit a load of debris in an unlit country road, ( earth and railway sleepers, the farmer ended up in court) I had a pair of stadium Mk 7 goggles on my helmet at the time ,the shatterproof lenses did their job as the goggles were crushed between the road and my helmet, unfortunately the crappy brass surrounds ripped into my face slicing like a razor blade through my cheek. I still have the visible scar 44 years later on.
Would i be interested in buying them and repeating the process ? not likely !

I have some somewhere with a large crack on the glass where a large stone hit them while Grass Track Racing in the 70s

Looks like yours did the job for you, better than a poke in the eye etc. mine opened up like a can of beans and caused the damage, they were protecting nothing at the time as they were in the time honoured position atop the open faced helmet, might have been ok if i had been wearing them ?

They were good enough for WW2 fighter pilots and road racing Smile

They WERE indeed good enough in the day, until i see Valentino Rossi and the Red Arrows wearing them i will remain unconvinced of their suitability NOW ?
