Parts compatability

Post  FBKev on Wed Nov 28, 2018 3:30 pm

Quick question. Can a Villiers 1H 4peed box be mated to a 10E engine or does it have to be the 31/32A version.
Thanks in advance Kev.

gerbox compatability

Post  piston 197 on Wed Nov 28, 2018 5:04 pm

In a word NO the 1H gearbox is a completely different item to the E/A series gearbox, don't doubt an engineering solution could be found, but as it is a much wider assembly lining everything up and making an adaptor plate to get the mounting lined up would be a nightmare and the rear mount would be in a completetely different place

Thanks John. I take it the cluster can't be swapped either. In that case I have a 1H 4 speed box available if any wants one or swap for a 4 speed for an E or A series Villiers IE 9/10E 31/32A

More bad news !

Yes right again the cluster from the 1H will interchange with a 2T but not E/A series, a 4 speed box to fit a 10E etc will set you back in excess of 125, the 1H box has a value nearer 25

Part number

Post  piston 197 on Wed Nov 28, 2018 5:37 pm

You will not find it from a part number, it looks the same as the 3 speed box, but has a rounded bottom, rarther than the square flat bottom try Paul Powell ( cottonvilliers trials) he usually has a couple ? The gearbox you need looks like ebay item223251952422, but this is from an electric start engine and has no kickstart mechanism and probably no positive stop mechanism, the gearbox you will need looks like this BUT has a kickstart shaft
