Jimd, From memory that little bracket just provides a stop for the brake pedal on models without a brake light switch in that location. The clevis pin that goes through the pedal/brake rod just abuts against it to provide a positive rearwards position of the pedal.

FB rear brake stop

Post  FB vincent on Wed Nov 21, 2018 9:11 am

It seems amazing that in 1958 the top of the range Cruiser 80 still only offered a rear brake light as an optional extra! I have sent Jim the relevant page from the 1958 user manual which shows how the bracket can be replaced by the Lucas switch mechanism; it is more likely that a switch bracket could be found than the missing lever bracket.

Cruiser 80 brake light

Post  piston 197 on Wed Nov 21, 2018 12:21 pm

The brake light switch is operated by a rocker mechanism and i have a couple of these assemblies if anyone needs one ?
The 1957 Cruiser 80 did not use the rocker brake switch it had a brake switch bolted to the chainguard with a spring attachment to pull the switch when the brake pedal was depressed, but from 1958 onwards the rocker switch was used.
The 1957 model also had the fush fit petrol tank cap
