1935 Francis Barnett Cruiser Project

Post  davin999 on Wed Nov 14, 2018 9:01 pm

First assessment on the1935 Francis Barnett Cruiser i have bought, information i`ve managed to gather so far i think to stand any chance of getting this bike on the the road will have to be a bit of a Heath Robinson project, so much is missing and some of the parts are from a cruiser 45.I know parts for these bikes are not easy to come by so any member who may have any of these parts to sell or can help in pointing me to anyone who might be able to help me getting any of these parts, any help would be greatly appreciated
First parts list needed as a priority to get a running engine are.

Miller ignition / light switch, the switch  i have is the one fitted to the cruiser 45 just  a light switch.
Dynamo contact breaker spring (a coiled wire spring) or complete contact breaker assembly
Oil tank cap
Slide Spring and needle ( needle taper 5 ) to fit M/W Carburettor ( two lever type )
Kickstart lever.  (i may be able to fit a fixed lever as a getby)
Silencer

Have a read of this post from Ken (kerabo) http://fboc.forumotion.biz/t5385-cruiser-39-electrical-and-other-things
may be of some help sourcing the Miller ignition switch. They were used on Velocette's, Douglas's, and Vincent's

List Update
Parts acquired

*Complete contact breaker assembly acquired from Paul Dunn (dynamo`s)
*Carburettor parts from Villiers Services

Still wanted
**Miller ignition / light switch, the switch  i have is the one fitted to the cruiser 45 just  a light switch.
Oil tank cap
Kickstart lever.  (i may be able to fit a fixed lever as a getby)
Silencer
** After an intensive search for this part and found nothing, i`ve had a look at the wiring diagram with the idea of wiring the existing switch just for the lights and charging system from the dynamo to the battery and fitting another independent ignition switch, the question is can anyone see any flaws in this idea ?

Parts

David

See this with 2 days left.  It looks the same apart from it would need a resistor wire that has something to do with charging. It's missing the Bezel that I also need if you find any but it will fit and work without that.
I think this is a 3 Pos switch where mine is a 4 but it could be worth getting just in case.

If you need any pictures or measurements of anything let me know.

You have seen this Facebook page I made for the Cruiser?

Hi Ken thanks for your reply, that`s the same switch Frank above referred too i had already seen it, it`s not what i`m looking for as you say it looks like a 3 position switch even if it was a 4 it would still be no good as there`s so much missing ie.(if you check with yours) the brass link, the tell tale light fitting and the half charge resistance fitting.

cheers

Yes I know those windings are missing but they could be made. Keep an eye on Velo ME and Vincent as they share parts.
In fact the ME wiring diagram is the same.

This looks correct but I guess it will fetch good money but you could sell the rest on.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123507569724

Looks like I can get the Bezel from the Vincent site. A member is going to help me.
