Cruiser 39 wiring.

I am making a loom for the above bike but understand there is a join on the rear lamp wire that you can disconnect when removing the rear guard to get the wheel out.
Does anyone know what type of join it is and where the join is as I want to keep it original .

Hi Ken
Probably statement of the obvious but the join needs to be at the front end of the mudguard. On my mudguard there are tags on the inside (wheel side) to hold the cable in place. I used some rather neat 2 pin connectors from Maplin(sadly no longer with us) and located them just behind the seat.
None of which tells you what it was like originally! Would be interested to know.

Ok thanks for that.
I was looking for some tags or clips but didn't notice anything. I will look a little closer.
If I am correct and the join will be to the front of the guard then the engine covers will need to be removed to access it ?
I assume if the bike was high enough the wheel will remove without taking the rear guard away.
Have you left yours without a stop lamp. It would be nice but I want it original.

On my bike there is a gap of about 1/8 inch where the mudguard meets the frame, well above the engine covers. I put the cable through there. So no need to remove anything to unplug the connector.
The likelihood of my removing the wheel anywhere other than my garage is remote but regardless of how high you lift the bike I think there is not enough clearance to slide the wheel back in the slots to allow it to drop down.
I have neither brake light nor speedometer, both legal I believe.

On your cruiser coil if your is coil ignition squeezed tight onto the toolbox where the wires come out it the cap?
I am sure mine has never been touched but it's strange to fit it so tight.

The coil sits under the tank with the blank end of the coil level with the rear of the tank. The terminals are at the front end and easily accessible. I cannot vouch for the authenticity as i bought the bike in pieces but the coil is mounted between the frame by a nice semi-circular steel strap, so I hope I have it right.

It did seem strange to put the coil the other way round but I am sure mine is original. I wonder if it could be the other way round to keep the tempeture down from the engine into the wires?
