Two stroke oil ??

Post  TonyC on Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:35 pm

Hi can anyone advise what two stroke oil i can use in my Falcon 67 with the 8e motor. I have been getting oil from Villiers but the oil plus postage works out expensive. Can i use a synthetic two stroke oil. Thanks, Tony.

two stroke oil

Hi Tony

I have 6e and 8e Falcons on the road for the last 6/8years and have been using normal two stroke oils. You can get Carlube Two Stoke in your local garage, 500ml for 3.99. Asda 1 litre for 5 and most recently in my local motor factors, Comma Oils two wheel two stroke mineral oil 21 for 5l. Seems most of the modern oils mix better so I run about a 30:1 mix. No concerns in over 8,000 miles

Hope that helps
Best wishes

Two stroke oil ??

You will get all sorts of answers to this by plenty of people who would have more experience than me, but the general consensus will be that any GOOD QUALITY modern 2 stroke oil is fine.
I use Castrol 2T mineral oil, have done for 5000 miles in my Kestrel 13D, But.....

I had a big end fail after about 150 miles using a CHEAP synthetic 2 stroke oil which I picked up from that German supermarket chain. Using the same 25/1 mix as always.
You get what you pay for!
I'll use it in my modern garden equipment but no longer in the bike.

Maybe coincidence but back to the Castrol 2T for me.

Just use a quality brand. And make sure it is pre-mix and not one for injector as the latter is usually thinner.

As said everyone will have an opinion. I find it strange when someone will spend 100...s. on a rebuild and then use cheap oil.

You will find with a modern oil you won't get the smoke and plugs fouling.

I use Silkolene Comp2 Fully Synthetic Premix at 30:1

Yes Ken (kerabo), Cheap oil was a stupid idea that I didn't give much thought to at the time I purchased it. Wasn't looking for cheap oil, just seen it and bought it.
As stated I had done 5000 miles using the Castrol 2T, started using the cheap stuff and failed after another 150 miles.

The only upside I suppose is that I have a much better engine now after being re-built.

No offence taken Ken.
It's good to get the info out there though so all of us are a bit better informed.
