Its a 4T not 2T as described by seller. Strange choice of engine for a cafe racer, the 4T to my knowledge was not fitted to bikes (other than maybe some police models) The main use of a Dynastart 4T was for the Bond MkG minicar. That's what the 4T was designed for.

I know the Later models of the James Superswift/M5 sport had the 4T fitted. Not Sure about FB models though.

The 1964 Cruiser 91 Twin Sports had the 4T, but just the normal kick start version
Other makes using the k/s 4T were RE (Turbo Twin) Greeves (25DC Mk2 and East Coaster) & Cotton (Continental 1965)

Just heard from seller Engine number is 429D12684 (a 2T for a Cruiser 89) so looks like the inner chain case from that engine has been fitted to a 4T. You cant put a 4T top end onto a 2T without changing the crank as con rods & pistons are different & have larger gudgeon pins.

FB cafe racer

Post  piston 197 on Thu Sep 06, 2018 2:13 pm

I used to own the said bike it is a 2T bottom end converted to 4T spec with rods and top end, since i sold it for £950 it has had high level exhausts fitted ( it had low level expansion pipes) the footrests have been altered, the front brake has been changed and the tank has been changed, ( it had a green painted alloy Triumph cafe racer tank a slightly different shape to the current one) it went well when i had it, but not much better than a good 4T, apparently eye witnesses who saw it at the festival of 1000 bikes it now goes worse than a standard 4T.
It has appeared on Ebay at least twice before and failed to sell, it was good value when i bought it for £650 and still reasonable @ £950 when i sold it at Kempton Park to the owner before the current owner, but £3500 someone is having a laugh ?
The frame is from a Cruiser 75  and it started life some years ago as a £20 buy with a 225 1H engine in it purchased many years ago derelict from a caravan site near Brecon, i let the owner after me have the £20 purchase receipt.

Must have had a different crank and cases as the original 429D would have been a kick start 2T with short crank. The dynastart version has a longer crank on RH side with an extra bearing to accommodate the Siba dynastart. 2T dynastart engines are rare as they were not fitted to the Bond, only a few scooters and the DMW Deemster police bike, and micro cars.

Dynastart bike

Post  piston 197 on Thu Sep 06, 2018 4:05 pm

Sorry clicked on the wrong bike, the one i sold was the cafe racer 2T with 4T top end, not the sports cruiser mentioned above, i was confused between the 2 listings, hence the reference to the £3500 asking for the other bike
I guess the only part of the engine in the red bike that relates to the 429D engine number is the inner clutch case with the serial number on it ?

Sorry I misread. I thought you meant 4T engine not 4T dynastart.
