10E 250 conversion

Post  FBKev on Fri Aug 10, 2018 3:37 pm

When I got the Falcon 81 along with the Captain, the previous owner also supplied two 31a barrels & one head (now have a 32a head as well) one is rebored with a new +60" piston and the other needs to go to Villiers services to see if it will take one their +100" pistons (pitting/water damage around the TDC area) I know these engines shared the bottom end, and they both had the same S25/2 carb so is just a matter of using the 31a jetting? has anyone here done this? is there anything I should look out for. One more thing (going to do the falcon 1st) can the barrel be removed with the engine in situ?
TIA Kev.

31A from 9E

Post  piston 197 on Fri Aug 10, 2018 4:01 pm

Yes you should be able to do the barrel swap with the engine in situ, the tank will have to come off, but that is about all.
The 9E/10E uses a 120 main jet and the 31A uses a 130 other than that there should be no changes necessary.
The 31A barrel has a flange the same thickness as the 9E/10E as both use 5 1/4" long conrod, so just check they are 31A and not 32A which is 1/4" longer as it uses the 5 1/2" long conrod, if the barrel is indeed a 31A it will be the same length as the 197cc barrel and it will be a straight swap
