Plover frame corrosion

Post  kerabo on Wed Aug 08, 2018 8:45 pm

Asking for someone else but does anyone have a plover and can look at this picture please.

He fears the frame is cracking around the swinging arm mounting but is unsure how it's built.

Anyone had experience with these.

It's actually a James Cadet but thunk it's the same.

swing arm

Yes another poor design from James, the swing arm is only pinched between the sides of the monocoque rear tub, there is no damping on the suspension, just a pair of springs ( a damper was fitted to the 175cc Cavalier and was an option on the Cadet/Plover) invariably the flex around the swing arm mounts and the load placed on the springs does lend itself to cracking around the mounts and broken springs. If it has cracked the onl;y recourse will be welding and/or plating the affected area, or of course replacing the rear tub section of the frame. Needless to say the metal rusts away on the inside of the tub where it is an ideal depository for water and debris.
