Plover 86 lighting

Post  davin999 on Tue Jul 31, 2018 2:51 pm

Hello all,
assistance needed re 1961 Plover 86 lighting just bought an 86 wiring was a right cobbled together mess in the toolbox area there was an old mangled rectifier and a battery as old as the hills ,iv`e sorted out the wiring from the BMS manual diagram fitted a new battery and a KBPC 35-04 solid state rectifier + to earth - to battery and orange & white to AC terminals i`ve not isolated it all battery operations work when switched to L eg pilot & rear light & speedo & brake light & horn button switch to H start the bike nothing front & rear. I`ve never had any dealings with Wipac electrics to which i might add i`m not very impressed with cheap switches & sockets,( i thought the prince of darkness Joe Miller`s electrics where not the best but i`ll never moan about them again). Now the question is have i made an error with the wiring on the rectifier or is it as i suspect something amiss with the generator,is there a quick test of the lighting coils with the bike running or will it be a case of taking the flywheel off if so anyone know where i can get an extractor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards
Dave.

extractor

Apparently the extractor needed is the same as a Lambretta ?( Left hand Metric thread) but be careful not to split the end of the crankshaft when the pointed end of the extractor is used, best to grind it off flat and make a sleeve to protect the end of the crankshaft

Thanks John,i`ll have a look round for one, think i`ll be needing one if no one can suggest a way of testing the lighting coils without removing the flywheel.

Elektrickery

Not my field ( elektrickery) but would have thought a meter across each of the wires coming out of the generator and earth should tell you if there is any voltage coming out of the generator ?

If the 86 is an AMC 15T (I forget) then Villiers services sell an extractor as I bought one for my Fulmar.

Yes it is the same engine as the Fulmar, so same puller will do the job
