Parts quality trouble

Post  fulmar88 on Tue Jul 24, 2018 10:16 pm

When I stripped my 4T I struggled to get the drive side key out of the keyway. It was a bit mangled but I got it out. Teeth were fine so I planned to refit the sprocket on the rebuild. Struggled for an hour to get the sprocket on tonight without it binding on the key and ultimately gave up. Inspection of the sprocket gave the answer. The keyway is machined on a slight diagonal within the sprocket and is askew as can be seen in the picture. I assume it was pressed on originally and to hell with damage to the key. Unwelcome delay as I now need to wait for a new one to arrive.

Phoned Villiers as the sprocket isnít listed on their website. Closed Wednesdays...So, back to the workshop with a fresh mind and 5 minutes later itís fitted, first attempt. You got to love these old bikes. If at first you donít succeed, sleep on it.
