Hi trying to figure out the Engine number I was told to look at the alloy engine mounting near the block. I have some numbers and letter but really difficult to see does anyone know if this sounds correct.

Its a FB Falcon 1952/3 071A 620 N or D ??

071A coding is not in my comprehensive list of Villiers codings, but 071B is a 4 speed 8E supplied to FB for fitment 1953 onwards , the earlier 071A would fit in amongst earlier listings of 6E engines, but was not an original coding issued to FB
For identity purposes the 6E has the winged motif on the clutch case and the 8E has the 3 scalloped lives and "Villiers" in an oval casting , the 6E and 8E c asings are not interchangeable

The "D" after the numbers indicates it was originally from a machine with direct lighting and no battery
All rigid Falcon 55 models had a battery and rectified lighting, the rigid model 54 had direct lighting and all Falcons 58,67,70 and 74 had battery and rectified lighting
