Start and Stop !!

Post  Peter236uk on Thu Jul 12, 2018 7:35 am

I am over the moon to have a purchased a 1953 Francis Barnet Falcon its a steep learning curve for as its my first classic/vintage bike.

In my excitement when I purchased the bike I did not ask where is the kill switch or if it has one !!

She starts first kick most times unless I flood her !! however not sure how to stop her !!

Kill switch

Post  piston 197 on Thu Jul 12, 2018 8:29 am

There is no Kill switch as the bike is not designed to have a tickover, any tickover is set by having a friction type throttle and not a fly off return type, leaving the throttle slightly open will keep the engine running, the series 1 models with the 6E engine had a decompressor in the head operated by a lever on the handlebars which could also be used to stop the engine, the later seriesII with the 8E engine did not have this facility, although the earlier head can be sustituted

Back in the 60's I had a James 150 I used to stall it to stop it. That seemed the way everyone else stopped their bikes. Happy times just thinking about my first bike.
