Villiers crankshaft

Post  lushey1 on Fri Jun 22, 2018 5:30 am

Hi,
Having dismantled my Villiers XIA crankshaft,I am having trouble getting it back together so it fits smoothly in the crankcase.Any suggestions on how to line up both sides of the crankshaft correctly would help.

Crankshaft alignment

Post  piston 197 on Fri Jun 22, 2018 6:42 am

The usual procedure is before dismantling to scribe 2 lines across the flwheels and to measure the width, when reassembling align the scribed lines and press together to the correct width, then using a trueing jig and DTI clocks check both sideways and diametrical runout, adjust these with a coper hammer.
You do need some basic engineering tools and a decent jig and press, if you have none of these suggest you hand the job over to someone who has ? if anywhere near redditch suggest taking the cranks and cases to Nametab engineering ?

crankshaft

Yes i spent my time in engineering including crank assembly and re-roring, it is surprising how many items came in ready dismantled and how many snapped seized studs came in with an "easyout" snapped off inside it !

It usually costs less if brought to the engineers BEFORE having a go yourself !
