Rectifier and wiring

Post  dodgeyroger on Mon Jun 04, 2018 5:34 pm

My Cruiser 80 has ceased charging , rectifier is suspected culprit. It is the original round tin type. I gather these are replaced with a modern square type. Does anybody know where to source one from and is it a straight forward affair to wire it up ?

Regards Roger
Thanks

Rectifier and Wiring

Post  Cyclethread on Mon Jun 04, 2018 6:22 pm

The rectifiers are readily available on Ebay for around five pounds. My Falcon has an 8E engine so I suspect the the wiring will be different on your machine. The rectifier has two input terminals an earth and an output. I am sure someone with a similar machine will advise you. Regards Chris.

Wipac rectifier replacement

Post  FB vincent on Tue Jun 05, 2018 6:32 am

If you use the forum 'Search function' you will find plenty of advice on this subject. Thread 'http://fboc.forumotion.biz/t3012-rectifier-position?highlight=rectifier' shows how I retained the original Wipac item in position, but lengthened the wires to connect to a new bridge rectifier.

For info, ancient selenium rectifiers usually just deteriorate slowly rather than fail completely, it is more likely that you have a fault in the wiring. Wipac alternators are also reliable.
