Thanks Ken

Bar threads

Ken the originals were a fine thread ( cycle), but the replica ones produced by MCE, Pride and Clarke, etc in the day are a coarse thread ( probably whit), so just check which you have

Handlebars

Post  kerabo on Mon May 28, 2018 2:42 pm

Hi john
I am trying to reclaim a set of good bars with broken bolts in them. I have drilled undersize and can see an outline of the thread. It looks to coarse to be the very fine bscy but don't think it's whitworth so maybe the other bscy thread. What you think 1/2" or 9/16"?

Threads

Post  piston 197 on Mon May 28, 2018 2:47 pm

The original ones are definitely fine threaded and not as big as 9/16", i would think 1/2" is most likely.
The replica bars look much the same as the original FB/James ones, but have a much coarser thread, some of the replica ones when viewed from underneath have a number in raised profile between the bosses.
I will send you an Email pic of some original ones

Bars

Post  kerabo on Mon May 28, 2018 3:05 pm

I am wondering if someone attempted to put original bolts into replica bars . I can't see how anyone could sheer both bolts kevrk with the edge of the thread.
I had them geared but still it won't move so had to drill it.
