Crankshaft nut

Post  keith livingstone on Mon May 28, 2018 10:03 pm

Hi Alan
Sounds like you're progressing steadily and now on the engine?
Just checked one of my 8E cranks and the nut securing the crankshaft pinion is 1/2" and 20tpi.  I haven't a chart to hand.  Most likely it one Villiers decided on at the time. It's certainly not course enough to be 'whit' bsw.  It may be bsf.  The tpi for bsw and bsf threads varies as the thread diameter changes.  I doubt if you'll find any cycle threads on Villiers engines as such. Bsw bsf and unf are used frequently. Cycle threads are instantly recognisable because they are so fine at 26tpi irregardless of the diameter and probably as the name suggests are use for cycle / frame fittings i.e axles shock and engine  mounting bolts etc.

Best wishes
Keith
