There was a loose piece inside the cylinder, most likely with a AMC two stroke part of the top ring, or possibly a lump of spark plug insulator, it bounced up and down inside the cylinder before eventually finding it's way out of the exhaust port. I have also seen it where a small pebble or nut has been sucked up the carburettor when an air filter is not fitted
