Villiers Decompression Lifter/Lever/Valve

Post  blackjak on Fri May 11, 2018 7:40 am

Can someone please tell me the what the size and thread is for the bolt that screws into the decompressor to secure the cable to the decompressor? I believe there is a plate between the bolt and the compressor to assist in securing the cable. A 5mm metric bolt will screw in a couple of turns but no more and I do not want to force it. any help appreciated.

Cheers

If a 5mm nearly goes in it is most likely 2BA.

If you and a sae I will sad you one but the stamp will cost more than the bolt.

Villiers engine threads are bsf, except for magneto threads which may be ba. Studs screwed into aluminium castings may be bsw. You do not specify the engine type that you are referring to, the thread will definitely not be metric.

Thanks for the info Ken. Yes living in the land down under and still basking in sunshine. 31 degrees today even though it is our autumn. I still have family in the UK and get a lot of parts for the bike and my classic minis sent to them and then have them forwarded on to me. So your offer of an sae was not misplaced. i have ordered some from ebay here in Australia which I am hoping do the job. They say they are from a Triumph, not sure if it is a car or bike, but they are 3/8" long so I don't think I will need to trim them.

cheers

Just to say I received my 2BA screws today and it screwed in to the decompressor valve perfectly. Thanks Ken for your suggestion.
