Villiers carburettor main jet/centrepiece codes

Post  FB vincent on Tue Apr 17, 2018 3:42 pm

Does anyone understand the codes for the main jet/centrepiece in a Villiers carburettor?

As an example, the 'Junior' carburettor as fitted to the 98cc autocycle engine is fitted as standard with an J8 centrepiece. Does a J7 centrepiece pass more or less petrol??

There does not seem to be any reference material on this subject.

Brass jet

Post  kerabo on Tue Apr 17, 2018 5:25 pm

I was also trying to find info about these. I bought 2x 10 of them nos and don't know what they fit. I have a feeling the hole size could be the same but the length and fitting varies. I did notice that an S25 has a longer brass jet than a smaller carb. The needles vary in length a little. Inspect the hole as they go oval.

Vílliers carburettor centrepiece/main jet

Post  FB vincent on Thu Apr 19, 2018 7:33 am

Ken,

Many thanks for posting this very interesting data sheet.

It appears that the higher number jets were larger i.e. passed a greater amount of petrol.

But I still do not understand why the Junior carburettor is shown as having an option of J8 or J120 for the same engine!!

Jets

I can only guess it's a different way ot numbering them as on the same scale they would be miles apart. If your having problems remember the main jet only works with the throttle fully open so unless you have problems there you should look at the needle and brass tube. On my 2F the brass jet tube was oval and fitting a new needle and tube transformed it

Not sure if you made a typo or misread the table Sandy. The Junior has an option of the J8 or the V120. So, one presumes, a different series of jets but of a similar size.

Maybe that's the brass needle jet. And the other is the main jet.
Either was VS had mine for the 2F on the shelf

Hi Ken, I think your right, looking further through the book, I find it contradicts itself by calling it a j8, j8 or v120 is the jet and v408 is the centrepiece. Mike
