Hi can any member help me?
I have just been given an old F B 1955 Kestrol 69 but DVLA cannot verifi registration number KPT773
And the last owner lost the log book.
DVLA said I had to get in touch with F.B.Club as they might be able to  HELP ?
I am willing to pay for this
Thank you denboy-10

KPT is a Durham registration & records should be at Durham County Records Office http://www.durhamrecordoffice.org.uk/
If they have the record card for the initial registration it will need to have the frame number listed. DVLA will no longer accepts documents showing just reg No (ie old tax disc). If the record card (assuming Durham have it) does not show frame number and you dont have the old buff/ or green log book you wont be able to reclaim the number.
The FB club can only help with an authentication letter via the V765 scheme if you have the nesessary document showing registration number and frame number.
If this is not available you will have to have an age related number.

Thank very much John Wakefield For your reply.
I have been in touch with Durham record department and they do not have any records?
What is my next step to get a registration for the bike?
Otherwise i will have to scrap it.
Can the F.B.Owners club help?

Regards deny-10

You will have to go for an age related number. John Harding (piston197) is the FB Club DVLA authenticater, he will no doubt be along to tell you what to do. If not send him a PM

Searching the Durham Record Office web site I did find reference to two vehicle registration books for Francis Barnett's as follows;
Ref: D/X 1639 /1
Vehicle registration book of a Francis Barnett Falcon 67 model motorcycle, registration number 240 BMG, first registered to John Oliver Thompson of 13 Railway Street, East Howle, Ferryhill, 17 May 1954

Ref: D/X 1639/2
Vehicle registration book of a Francis Barnett motorcycle, registration number 199 FHN, first registered to Duplex Motor and Cycle Company, Grange Road, Darlington, 21 October 1957

So if the owners of 240BMG and 199 FHN are out there it may be of interest. as neither bike is on the DVLA web site.

A useful guide as to what records are held by the various County Record Offices can be found on the Kithead Trust web site http://kitheadtrust.org.uk/england-wales#PT
