Dear All , has anyone got a wiring diagram for a 6e , also what is the resistance for the coil and the lighting coil as my testing man wants to know . Have seen mention of a "dry cell battery " in the headlamp , what is that for and can I run he bike without it ? thanks a lot ... david

Dry cell battery

Post  piston 197 on Tue Mar 27, 2018 2:16 pm

The dry cell battery is for the bike with direct lighting ,I.E lights work off the engine when engine is running ( Direct lighting) it is used to provide a parking light, it is not fitted with rectified charging type lighting which has a conventional battery, which system do you have ??
For example Falcon 54 , with 6E engine uses direct lighting
Falcon 55 uses rectified charging system with conventional battery
There are needless to say 2 different wiring diagrams for the 2 systems and different magneto coil layout, so first you have to decide which system you are running?
If you have a battery carrier and rectifier and a headlamp switch which says O P H Direct, you will have the rectified charging set .

The system I have has no battery or rectifier , so how is the voltage regulated ? on the headlight it is on, off, hi, low . The bike is an Ambassador , but there is not really a club of sorts , and you lot seem to know what you are all about . So I need to know how the lighting coils are wired up to each other and what the resistance is , with thanks david .

Rectified

The Voltage is regulated by the wattage of the bulbs, the lighting coil set does not have a high enough output to overcharge the system, and the headlight switch has a make/break link to stop all of the power going to the tail lamp when the headlight is switched between high and low.
For the direct lighting set the output of the 2 lighting couils are joined so a single wire comes out of the backplate.
I have a wiring diagram for the direct lighting circuit but it uses a 3 position swith L, OFF, P with no parking light ( dry cell battery) fitment, at the moment my camera is kaput, so cannot send a picture of it at the moment
