plover headlamp shell

Post  mike Sayer on Tue Mar 20, 2018 7:46 pm

Hi all, can anyone tell me if all Plovers use the same headlamp shell, and if they do, has anyone have a spare for sale?
Thanks, mike Sayer.

Mike, I'm no expert so until one comes along... but if memory serves different models used different electrics and as such hole for light switch may of then differed??? What model plover lamp do you need as it may be someone has what you need.

Plover headlight shells

Post  piston 197 on Wed Mar 21, 2018 6:56 am

In a word no ! if you have a Villiers engined one they will be different for rectified and direct lighting ( Ammeter and switch position), similarly the AMC/ Wipac ones will have a different switch hole and will or will not have an ammeter depending on lighting system

plover headlamp shells

Post  mike Sayer on Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:49 am

Look out chaps, here I am again, it now turns out that the frame is a 1959 Falcon 81 & engine a 197 cc 10E (662B), so what is wanted is a headlamp shell for a Falcon 81, not a Plover (unless they are the same!)
Tip for the future, its very difficult to help someone without having at least the minimum information!
Apologies & thanks, Mike.

Shells

Post  piston 197 on Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:57 am

Once again different shells for the 81
in 1958 used the lucas one with the standard Villiers/lucas 4 position switch ( off,P,H, Direct) Ammeter and speedo hole
in 1959 used same shell but different 4 position switch,Lucas 415SA type ( and smaller "D" shaped hole for the switch ) This shell was used 1959 only on Falcon 81 and Plover with rectified lighting, also equivalent james model

suggest you go for the earlier type as these were common from 1955 to 1958,( falcon 70,74,81 and Cruiser 71,75 and the switch is readily available, the later 415SA 4 postion switch is no longer made and a bugger to find

I may have one of these shells, just need to look
