Cruiser 89 air filter for Viliers 4T engine

The 4T engine as fitted to the Cruiser 89 has an air inlet and filter assembly unique to this model. An example is for sale on ebay as Item 222725263504. It appears to be complete apart from the air filter end cover and the gauze.

The above is nothing to do with me, but hopefully may be of interest to others with a 4T engined Cruiser 89.

4T air filter

I modified my air filter to take a foam element. The old gauze and felt ones are no longer available, and are not very efficient. Villiers Services do a filter c/w a foam element http://villiersservices.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=667

Cruiser 89 /4T filter

All good except this 4T air filter ( square type on VS website) is not correct ( and won't properly fit) the Cruiser 89 with the 4T engine as it fouls the body work and even if you get it on will be breathing against the frame centre section, fine on a Greeves or RE Turbo twin though with no tin work centre section.

The one on Ebay is correct for the 89/4T and gets the air filter through 90 Deg. so that it can breathe without being tight against the body work, now a faom airfilter used in conjunction with this air box manifold would be fine, but you would still need this bit ?

Yes the standard Villiers 'tobbaco' tin one does look a bit tight on the 89. But if it did fit would breath ok as it takes air from sides not the end. In fact on the Greeves its very close to tool/battery box.

Was just trying to prevent anyone buying one of these ( very reasonably priced) 4T filters only to find it did not clear their bodywork when they came to fit it as they were quite likely to do if they read the post above given the rarity of the unique to 4T engined Cruiser 89 correct air box .
