Villiers engine ID

Post  FB vincent on Wed Nov 15, 2017 10:32 am

According to the book 'Villiers - Everybody's Engine' by Carrick and Walker, the prefix 070B dates from 1953 to 1958 but is for an 8E engine, not a 1H.

I think a 1H should start with 842A

Your sure that's what you have?

Engine codes

Yes if you have a 1H engine with code 070B someone has been at it ?
070B is a 3 speed 8E 197cc engine to FB specification supplied between 1954-58 and used in the FB Falcon 70 and 74.

Hi yes I think your right someone in the past has been playing with the numbers but the engine is definitely a 1H and its on a 1956 cruiser 75 the engine number plate was not actually fixed to it so now not sure what to do as the number in the log book is the8E can only imagine that some previous owner has gotten hold of this engine plate and used it to obtain a reg number .thanks for all your help but it looks like back to the drawing board.Dodge

Engine No

Post  piston 197 on Wed Nov 15, 2017 7:37 pm

Another big clue ! the 8E does not have an engine plate with the number on, it is stamped onto the top of the front engine mount on a 8E.
I would guess it has been through the hands of a numberplate dealer and been cloned to transfer a reg No . ??
Is the frame No correct for a Cruiser ?? for a 1956 registered Cruiser 75 it should be WB ( August 1955 to July 1956 or YB August 1956 to July 1957, or has this been altered to that of a Falcon as well ?

Where do i go now ?

Post  piston 197 on Wed Nov 15, 2017 7:56 pm

In the ideal world back to the scrote who sold it to you, it seems you have a Cruiser 75 with a Villiers 1H engine, and have a frame number , engine number and logbook from a 1956 Falcon 74 with a Villiers 197cc 8E engine .
Is the engine size recorded as 225cc or 197cc ??
If you intend to keep it forever it should not be a problem, but if you want to sell it on, you are basically passing on a "ringer" and technically you now know and anybody else looking at this forum will know as well !
