1F engine help anybody.

Post  Mollbhan on Fri Oct 13, 2017 3:59 pm

Hi all, I have a Villiers 98cc 1F engine which ran roughly, I found the crankcase gland seal was leaking badly. Nothing for it but a major engine strip down but the problem is on splitting the crankcase I cannot remove the crankshaft from the inner crankcase half. Obviously I do not want to be too brutal with it till I know just what I am doing, Has anyone stripped down a 1F engine to get at the gland seal? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Problem solved, careful use of a gas blowlamp on one part and iced water on the other persuaded everything to let go but these bronze gland seals must have been common on earlier 2 strokes, are they guilty of wearing out and leaking?
