Double lift centre stand

Post  arthtech on Sun Aug 27, 2017 7:56 am

I have a 1956 F-B Cruiser 75 with a Double lift centre stand that has been fudged to just operate in the high position with some parts now missing. I would like to revert to the double lift, as at present it is quite hard to get onto its stand. I would be grateful for any help mainly either drawings or sketches or photos of the double lift parts. I have a copy of the Motor Cycle sketch but this does not show enough detail for me to fabricate the missing parts. I am an engineer and have access to workshop facilities to make up the parts that are missing. I am near Banbury in Oxfordshire and would ideally like to see a bike with a working double lift stand so that I could see how it works and get the relevant details and dimensions, etc. Thank you,

arthtech

Cams

Post  Bigjim on Sun Aug 27, 2017 8:13 am

Some of us are working on the 2 cam shapes. I have been given a template, from which I drew in cad the shape. I made the shapes in perspex, (my laser won't cut metal) sent them back to the other person for checking. We are now waiting to check the details of the crusier 84 versions. When all is OK, we'll get some metal ones laser cut.

cams for double lift stand

Post  mike Sayer on Fri Sep 01, 2017 3:09 pm

Hi all, Moscow Flyer (thanks Mike) has sent me one of the perspex patterns for the cam which Big Jim has produced (part No.6794, for the Cruiser 84).& asked me to check it. Whilst the profile is correct, & matches the pattern I have, (& made my stands from), the actual size is wrong, it needs to be about 3/32" bigger all round & slightly thicker !

lifting cams

Post  Bigjim on Fri Sep 01, 2017 3:32 pm

Hello Mike
I made 2 cams of differing shapes, as supplied by the other Mike. Which one have you got? The almost mirror image one (2 circles with a dip joining them. Or the almost Oval type.
I knew about the thickness but I have access to 3mm Perspex off cuts by the bucket load. Planning to get them in 4mm steel. Mosco Mike drew round his and sent me a drawing. Could you do the same? I will PM you the details.

Here's what I have now got re the highlift cams. Thanks to Mike Sayer, for giving me the definitive Cruiser 84 cam profile.  The image shows 2 other cams of which I have no idea what they are for, help is required.
If people are after new C84 cams I can get a quote for some to be made.  Just PM me if you are interested
Edited post to show new info re the cams 16/9/17

Cam profiles

Post  piston 197 on Wed Sep 13, 2017 7:32 pm

They will be Cruiser 80 ( AMC 250) and Cruiser 71,75 ( Villiers 225) one left handed and one right as exhaust exits on different sides with the 2 engines, can' remember which is which, but think the left one is the 71/75 and the middle one is Cruiser 80 ???

High lift centre stand

Post  mike Sayer on Sun Jan 21, 2018 2:25 pm

Yes Sandy, I'd like to get my hands on it to produce some drawings so that I and others could make some as there must be quite a few. Cruiser 80 owners around who would like a high lift stand on their ' bike. However, I don't suppose it would be possible to borrow it for a few days..............?

Mike,

Sorry, the ebay advert is nothing to do with me, I mentioned it on the Forum since images of the high lift stand are few and far between. My Cruiser 89 has the later cast stand - quite a struggle to get it up onto it. I do not understand why the lift on the Falcon 87 is hardly enough to get the bike off its rear wheel, while the Cruiser stands high up.

Stands

Post  kerabo on Sun Jan 21, 2018 4:39 pm

There are several FB stands on eBay. One is claimed to be a double lift type.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F122918018037

See his other items for the rest of them

Regards the falcon 87 remember if it goes over centre it starts to lower again so check its stops are ok.

High lift centre stand

Post  mike Sayer on Mon Jan 22, 2018 3:25 pm

Hi Sandy, I was aware that it was not you advertising the Cruiser 80 stand ( apologies for my badly worded post. ) I was over optimistically thinking that perhaps if an FBOC member bought the stand then they might agree to lending it to me or someone so it could be drawn up in order that stands could be made in the future. All my 'bikes are Cruiser 84's , otherwise I may have considered bidding on it although it looks as if it needs a bit of TLC!
By the way, with the high lift stand in operation on my 84's, the rear tyre is a whisker over ONE INCH clear of the ground & it is just possible to wriggle the rear wheel out with the rear number plate & its mounting plate removed. My picture shows my red 84 with the high lift stand in operation.
Regards, Mike.

Hi Ian,

Yes I used the coils please let me know what I owe you?

Also The 55 Cruiser did not have a Double lift stand I think it only started on the 75 cruiser

I do have a detailed picture of the double lift if you would like it?

Yes came out for the model 75 ( 1956 model that was launched in August 1955) so technically was available in 1955, but on a 1956 model, the 1955 model 71 had a conventional stand rather than the double-lift version

Post  peter@dunfordconstruction on Tue Feb 27, 2018 12:29 pm

Dear Ian

Herewith pictures of stand and two parts that I have in stock, which are quite rare.  If you would like them, perhaps we could do a swap with the coils?

out box full ?

Post  piston 197 on Sun Mar 04, 2018 7:47 am

Could be your outbox is full , or Mike's inbox could equally be full ? i have been caught like this a couple of times when i have been sent messages and my inbox is already at 100% so i have not received them until i empty my inbox, just go to your outbox, if less than 100% it will sit there until it is opened by the receiver, if inbox is at 100% delete a few old messages
