Engine Electrics

Post  seipgam on Fri Aug 18, 2017 7:57 am

A while age when I was getting my Kestrel 66 (13D) on the road I went through the electrics bit by bit, fitting new-
Spark Plug, Lead, Points, Brightspark Easycap Condenser, Coil.

I noticed a significant performance improvement after fitting the new coil. While of course I am happy with this, could someone please explain how an old coil deteriorates and affects performance?

Cheers, Geoff.

Geoff

It's possible you have your timing set better after fitting the coil.
This could give improved performance

With time the insulation on the windings deteriorates, and you get a poor or no spark. The current and voltage is still produced as it was but it leaks to earth before it can work as designed. Keith.

Thanks for the reply Keith, that clears it up for me.

And Ken - timing and points correct before and after.
