Front fork leg sticking

Post  Simon on Tue Aug 15, 2017 10:57 am

My falcon 58 has a sticky front fork leg so before stripping it down is there any probable cause for this or remedies as looking at older posts these forks are difficult to rebuild?

sticking fork leg

No simple to rebuild, but if a fork leg is sticking there will either be a dent in the bottom slider, or a bent leg, only way to tell is to take it apart

Fork leg

If it has damage then you have to take to bits but just a though. Mine were a bit noisy so I filled them to the very top with oil and left it overnight to get into the top bush and then drained and filled with the correct amount and the noise was gone.

Different forks

Post  piston 197 on Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:20 pm

Ken, the Falcon 58 is a very different fork to your forks, they contain no oil , are not damped and are just oiled through the oil nipples ( oil NOT grease) with an oil gun every 500 miles, they do not need or benefit being filled with oil and unless the top yoke is removed completely before putting in the oil will only fill the inner sliders up and not get to the bushes at all.
The bushes in these forks are tufnol and have a certain amount of inherent lubrication, unlike the bronze/brass bushes in the forks used from the falcon 70 onwards
