Engine and frame numbers..

Post  john87 on Sun Jul 23, 2017 10:16 am

Hi All,

Has anyone any idea if there is any correlation between engine and frame numbers?? reason for asking is that i have two falcons first registered within about a month of each other and the frame numbers are 901 apart but the engine numbers only about 102 apart.. Who fitted the plates to the engines and stamped them, Villiers or the Francis Barnett factory??

frame and engien No's

The engines were numbered by Villiers and delivered to their customers, ,there is no correlation other than the first digits of specification
i.e 662B is a 10E engine supplied to specification order for FB Falcon 81 1958/9
652B is a 10E engine supplied to specification order for James Captian K7 1958/9

The serial numbers come after the spec.No and bear no relationship to manufacturer's frame No.s

Numbers

Post  john87 on Sun Jul 23, 2017 5:38 pm

Hi John,

Thought that might be the case. I suppose when they were building the bikes, they just picked an engine out of a crate and stuck it in the frame, nearest engines first as it were!!
