kestrel 69 fork construction question

Post  johnh on Thu May 18, 2017 10:30 am

HI all, My Kestrel 69 rebuilt is progressing. I need to replace the fork suspension bushes. I understand that I have to remove the caps fitted to the top of the fork tubes before I can tap out the bushes.. Are these caps screwed on, braised, or friction fitted. what's the best/easiest way of removing them. I don't want to wreck them. Many thanks johnh

Fork caps

Just looked at a spare pair of Kestrel 69 forks I have and the caps are brazed on, you will have to heat them up with oxy/acetylene torch sufficiently hot to melt the braze before you remove them,
and braze back on once the bushes have been replaced

HI JH many thanks for your assistance once again. I'll enlist the assistance of my brother-in-law, the oxy expert.
