The engine is a 10E/3 with 3 speed gearbox, I think you read the engine number wrong and it is more likely 652B which would be a 10E from a James Captain 1958/9

The barrel will not work with this bottom end, it is from a 6 or 8E engine, is a diferent length so piston and port timing will not suit use with this bottom end

Hi

Thanks for your feedback/advise. you are spot on . looks to be 652B .

Can these engines converted to 250cc e.g i heard Cotton Starmaker were using 10e bottom half.

Not a chance

Nothing from the Starmaker engine is interchangeable with the 10E

you can fit a 31A or 33A barrel, head and 250cc 66mm piston onto the 10E bottom end to make it a 250cc or any alloy square barrel Greeves etc, but you will have to machine 1/4" off the bottom of the barrel as the 10E conrod is 1/4" shorter than the 250cc one ( stroke is the same @ 72mm, but rod is shorter.)
You would be better off buying another engine preferably a 250cc "A" series engine with a 4 speed gear box rather than wasting time and money on what you have, as it is never likely to reward the effort .

Ebay

Post  kerabo on Fri Mar 03, 2017 3:57 pm

Sorry
I should have put the numbers but there was only 5 hrs left when I replied.
They are listed 32a and 34a Villiers barrels
They went for good money one at over 85.00 and one nealy 100.00
I think they are 250 units.
If you watch eBay there are plenty of 9E barrels go through.
I found 4 with just a quick search.
