Well done Andy.
Is the bike up and running? You entered any trials yet?
I am putting another trials bike together from my left over parts and it's starting to look pretty good.

Hi Ken , not done any trials on this one yet. Not too happy with the tail pipe . Got a short trials type one from Armours but caused a back fire problem.

I am having a exhaust system made. Not sure if the pipe I have is large enough to but will see.
Can you remind me what size sprockets you have on the gearbox and rear sprocket?
How does it go on the road

Frame mods

Post  piston 197 on Mon Jan 16, 2017 8:16 pm

This post 1955 frame does not easily lend itself to turning into a trials frame, because of the tubing below the engine, the best solution I have seen is to remove these rails and put a flat bash plate completely under the engine, it gives about 2" more clearance and prevents being stuck on rocks logs etc when the rails foul and stop you suddenly and spectacularly. The earlier Falcon 58 and 67 fames have just a tight single tube under the engine and are much more suitable.

Trials frame

Post  kerabo on Mon Jan 16, 2017 8:22 pm

I never made this John.
This was the frame from the original bike that I transferred all the parts to the frame I bought from you.
I just had a pile of left over bits. Hubs, rims ,guards, handlebars, levers, and sprockets seat etc.
Just the engine I had from you was extra and I sold a 6E to fund that. It won't see many trials but maybe green lanes.

Still worth cutting the bottom rails out while you are at this stage Ken ?

Sprockets

Post  andy-s on Tue Jan 17, 2017 5:04 pm

Hi Ken, I have a 60 rear sprocket and a 13 final drive and an 18 engine sprocket. The gearbox is a standard 3 speed. Road speed is only about 30mph . It is road registered. But with the exhaust noise problem (sounds like an old machine gun) , Really need to get that sorted before its used in anger. If you're going to do road based trials I think the 60 rear might be too big and the 13 front too small . The membership arrived in the post today thanks.

Post  kerabo on Tue Jan 17, 2017 5:33 pm

Thanks Andy
I will do some calculations and let you know. I want a little more road speed that that.

I am on a 62 rear but cant remember the gearbox sprocket. It may be a 16.

Sent a Cheque and envelope Monday. Plan to retire at the end of May so the fun/rebuild Cruiser 80 and a near complete Cruiser 84 that I have been collecting bits and cleaning up for a couple of years should keep me busy. A T B. Bob
