1927 Super Sports Model 9 - Engine Oil Advice

Post  HardyMG on Sun Sep 18, 2016 7:59 pm

Now I seem to know which direction I am going on choosing the tyre size, can anyone advise on what type of oil and grade is best for use with the 172cc TT BZ villiers engine. Also, when regulating the oil drip feed from the tank, is there any advice on what sort of flow rate should be set i.e. how many drops a minute in the sight glass.

Also, any advice on gearbox oil type and grade much appreciated

When recommissioning the gearbox (to rectify the kickstart problem) I noticed that the small aluminium clutch fork anchoring bracket which also doubles up as a bearing housing (bolted to the Albion gearbox casing) had been poorly welded in the distant past, it had also been butchered and there were small hairline cracks in it from the heating process, possibly suggesting a high zinc content in the casting. As this casting will fail, I have made a new foundry pattern and have cast up a new component which I will machine up next week. If any other Model 5/9 owners have similar problems with this original component then I am able to assist.

Many thanks
