That Falcon 87 again. Alternator questions.

That Falcon 87 again. Alternator questions.

Left hand is the Wipac from the James Captain motor, righthand is the one from the Falcon. Two slots, larger diameter, thinner, mounted with a spacer at the back than the Wipac one. Also just noticed the Wipac system has 4 wires and an earth, whilst the other has 3 wires and no earth connector. Any ideas what I've got? I'm going to plump for the Wipac one unless anyone knows why not. The unbranded one does look in better condition marginally than the WIpac. I'll post photos of the mystery alternator tomorrow.

Falcon 87 Rotor

Post  MoscowFlyer on Sun Jun 05, 2016 7:28 am

If it helps, the Cruiser 80 and 84 have the same Wipac rotor as the Falcon 87, part No SO221. Mike

rotors and stators

Post  piston 197 on Sun Jun 05, 2016 10:00 am

The only FB, AMC engine to use the Lucas set up was the Light Cruiser, the Falcon 87, Cruiser 80 and 84 all used the Wipac one.
As the 20T engine in the falcon and the 17T engine in the Light Cruiser 79 share all other components except crank, piston (before eng, No.3032), barrel and carburettor, there is no reason why the Lucas one could not be used, but wiring may need altering ?
Quite possibly your Lucas rotor/stator has come from a 17T ?

There you go. The complete picture. If the WIPAC is the correct one then the WIPAC it is. Feels like the marginally stronger magnet as well. I guess the WIPAC doesn't have the thin spacer at the back of it?

WIPAC Bits

The rotor fits nicely though it needs a couple of mm of spacer at the back of it. Part No 06720, Serial No looks like 1470 and no idea what tyhe Spec number is. Hopefully it'll work.
