Kestrel 66 Headlight Identification
Hi Everyone,
I’m trying to identify the correct headlight unit for my 1953 Kestrel 66. Silvering on the currently fitted prefocus unit is very dull but I suspect that it’s not the original unit anyway. It measures 6 inches at the widest diameter, so assume that it’s a 6 inch unit (assuming that is the correct method of measurement?). There are no manufacturers makings on the front glass, just the word “SPEEDLITE” near the bottom edge with a small “55” beneath the E of SPEEDLITE. The word “TOP” is near the top of the glass. There is also a small, round, translucent window directly below the main bulb position to allow the pilot light to shine through.
Anyone know the correct item for my bike, if they are still available and if they are, where from?
Thanks & Regards,
Peter

The original is a Lucas 575 ( 5 3/4") the shell is the standard Lucas 575 with the diamond shape impressions on the side where the bolts fix it to the fork ears, the switch panel just has a Lucas 4 position switch ( O, P, H DIRECT) there is no ammeter , just a triangular depression in front of the switch.
"Speedlite " is an after market accessory glass

Many thanks for the info John. Seems I’m measuring it wrongly.
Am a bit confused reading the switch. Mine, which seems to be original, is a 3 position switch (L / Off / H) and the wiring diagram which shows the system as direct lighting only supports the bike having a 3 position switch only?
Cheers,
Peter

switch types
With direct lighting only , yours will be correct, the 4 position is for the rectified lighting set, all other details are correct
