Trials rear sprocket for Falcon 74

Post  Stevejoyce on Wed Apr 22, 2015 10:47 pm

Hello there. I am converting a Falcon 74 (1956) for pre 65 trials with the vmcc but struggling to find a big rear sprocket. Someone must have done this so any help welcomed. I have a 1/2 x3/16 chain same as a BSA bantam but bantam rear sprockets are 6 inch internal dia and DBS are 5 inch. Does anyone make sprockets with at least 60 teeth !?!?
I suppose I could fit a bantam rear wheel but would like to keep the fb one if possible. Does anyone make an adaptor plate from 5 to 6 inches or would it be feasible to weld a BSA steel sprocket onto a fb one. I have two good spare fb rear sprockets but these are only 48 teeth. Ids there any other way or getting trials gearing on a 1956 fb falcon 74.
Also anyone got pictures of folding foot pegs and where they are fitted as std ones are a bit too far forward for trialling. Cheers stevefromleicester

footrest position

Post  piston 197 on Thu Apr 23, 2015 4:57 am

Steve , I will have a look and see if I can help with sprocket
Footrests for trials should be approx. 1" higher than the bottom rails of the frame and positioned to be level with the front edge of the rear tyre, this will give maximum stability and have your weight at the correct position to find maximum grip

Have you tried Sprockets Unlimited http://www.sprocketsunlimited.com/Index.html ?

or, you might get away with a size 420 chain which is the "modern" equivalent, although not exactly the same dimensions. Blank sprockets for 420 chains are easy to come by and can be machined to suit your hub. Chris

I had one made for my trials 5" hub. I left the old sprocket with Sprockets unlimited at last year's Stafford Show . Service is very good and about 65.00 + postage What size are you going for?

I just looked up my Bill.
Dural 60T sprocket using the 50T original 5" hub sprocket as a pattern
38.00 plus postage and vat so not so bad as I thought.
I don't know if they keep their patterns but if they do I could give you my invoice number so that can duplicate it.

Thank you for your advice.
Yes the invoice number might help, but I have got an old one for a pattern if necessary. Do you also have contact details for this company ?
The price was very good as well.
