New here and asking the same questions

Post  duncslow on Wed Feb 18, 2015 8:18 pm

Hi all, Today I have inherited a big box of bits off an old Uncle, Its an unfinished project of a Francis Barnett. I need to rebuild and get it ready for the road so I am looking for advice/recomendations hints n tips.
firstly is the vin number, wm78041 this is the only number i can distinguish on the headstock. Im hoping this will give me the age and model of the bike.
i also need some form of age relating paper work to register it when finished,
It has a villiers engine too but i have not looked closely to see if there are any numbers on it. Can i get rebuild parts for the engine or bike in the UK.

sorry for all the questions but i am keen to get it together for the summer and I know I will be needing some parts and assistance to do this.
thanks in advance,
Chris

WM pre fix frame No relates to a 1956 Francis Barnett Falcon model 74, the engine should be a Villiers 8E 197cc, the engine No is on the top of the front engine mounting and should start 070B, all engine parts are available from either Villiers services , or Nametab Engineering
I can assist with paperwork for an age-related number, unless you have an old logbook or MOT or tax disc and then I can assist with retaining the original number, either way you will have to wait until you have a complete bike

Wow, thanks for the reply so fast. now I know what model parts to look for. I have the origional number plates and a tax disc holder but no paper work, I have checked dvla and its not on the records at the mo but they are sending me the paper work needed to register it. I will be needing a dating certificate or something to prove what it is,

Thanks for the info,
regards Chris

engine No

If you re-read my first post you will see that I have told you where to look for the engine no.
if you do know the original registration send it to me via a p.m. and I will check to see if it is still available, and whether the county records still exist, if so I will let you know which county issued, the registration and where to write to to get a copy of the records , this can be used to get the original number re-instated

registration info

Post  piston 197 on Fri Feb 20, 2015 7:44 am

POW registration numbers were issued between Jan 1956 and march 1956 by Southampton borough.
Southampton records are held at
Southampton County archives
civic centre
civic centre road
Southampton
SO14 7LY
phone No 02380 832251
If you can get a copy of the registration record or card index for this mark , it may be possible to retain this number.
I have checked this number and it is not being used on any vehicle , so if you can get a copy of Southampton records I may be able to retain the original registration for you on the DVLA V765 scheme
