In J.H. Goddard's book of the FB it does mention an awful lot about the carburettor ,but the only setting it gives is for the needle length, presumably there is no setting for the float height other than that dictated by the components themselves and no adjustment is available short of bending the parts ?? most problems are caused by using a weaker than specified oil mix and the fuel flowing faster through the jets as the weaker mixture is less viscous, rather than the float being at the wrong height ?

Running rich John

No matter what I do with the needle it still runs rich and 4 and 8 strokes on the road. Fuel sometimes runs from the inlet when not running so I wanted to check the height and then I may have to put a needle seat in but either way I would like to start knowing that part is correct..

poor running

JH Goddard suggests this can be caused by the main jet and recommends chamfering the outer of the hole in the jet to cure exactly the problem you mention ?

Gave it a good clean out and set the float to 1/4 thats about 1/16" lower than it was .I am now able to lift the mixture needle a few turns fron being all the way down and no fuel leaking. Its runs clean now with just a little 4 stroking at max so near enough.
