Kestrel 66 Suspension & General Info.

Kestrel 66 Suspension & General Info.

Post  seipgam on Tue Apr 01, 2014 10:04 pm

Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum so I hope these questions are not being repeated.

The bike is a 1954 Kestrel 66 - Villiers 13D 122cc

Can I purchase front suspension bushes or will I need to have them made? Been looking on line but can't find any.

What modern oil grades are recommended for the Primary Case, Gearbox and Clutch.

Can I run a leaner mix than the original 20/1 with modern 2-stroke oil.

Thanks in advance.

Hello & welcome.

Front fork bushes are non-existent.

ATF for Clutch. SAE140 for gearbox.

I run 25:1, but others run 33:1. I err on the oily side, just in case. A weaker oil mix can affect the mixture (enrichens).

Best of luck.

Bushes

Just had a look in the Kestrel spares book, the bushes for the Kestrel are (Tufnol) it is a cotton fabric tube. I knew nothing of this till five minutes ago and could be completely wrong, read all about it below. Mike

Yes Mike fork bushes in Kestrel 66, and post war falcons and Merlins with tele forks 1949 to 1954 all have tufnol bushes , pressed in , held in place by the oil nipples, and reamed to size after fitting, subsequent models differ in fork design and have brazed on bronze bushes
