Kestrel Identification please

Post  Science is Au on Sat Mar 03, 2012 3:04 am

Hi all

Been collecting Villiers engined bikes for a few years, have two series III Ambassadors, a 1951 and a 1949, a 1951 Excelsior and now the proud owner of a Francis Barnett Kestrel.

Bit of confounding information about it around though.

It has frame number U2161 and Engine 209A 63976.

From what I understand, it is a 1953 Kestrel, should be black in colour, not the present green, but the engine seems to be a 8E.

These were only ever released with a 122cc engine, correct? If so, what should the engine prefix be?

Thanks for any info that can be provided.

Cheers

Grant

Frame no beginning with U is 1954(manufactured between sept 1953 and end of august 1954) model kestel 66 this was fitted with a 13D 122 cc engine and was azure blue only .
Your seems to have a villiers 6E engine of 197cc from a falcon fitted in it

engine pre-fix

The original 13D 122cc engine would have had a pre-fix code of 618A and was used in the kestrel 66 1954 and the twin/clone 122cc James cadet of the same year,JH
