Wanted connector

Post  kerabo on Sat Jan 29, 2011 3:29 pm

I am searching for a connector that joins on a 9E the loom to the alternator connectors at the engine. Its the loom end I need. I know I can use single connectors but would like it more original if I can.

Also
The Villiers diagram i chose to make my loom from had the battery as Neg earth. I know most FBs were Pos Earth. i dont see a problem so long as my rectifier is wiired up the same and it is. At least like this i can use LED stop/tail bulbs to let more power go the the headlamp bulb. Your thoughts please.

Thanks Ken

Mines neg earth Ken, and according to the book I got from Arthur Gent, it is supposed to be. I'll be starting my 81's new loom soon, just need to get all the 87 stuff out of the way first. LED stuff could be good, very low drain aint they.

Wiring connector

Is that on a Villers or an AMC Malc? I double checked and the wiring diagram is a villers one. The led bulbs only comem in Neg earth so if i was to use them this would be usefull

Its negative on the Villiers Ken, and like I say I bought the relevant manual from the club and in it was a wiring diagramme in their that was negative earth. I did wonder myself when I saw the wiring till I got the book.

Wiring

Well Malc

The way I see it is that with the solid state rectifier I can have either. It depends on how I wire the solid state rectifier. The current from the alternator is AC so it should work. I see the origianal rectifier needs to be earthed through its body to the frame so with that I would have no choice.
I will give it a go and let you know what happens.

Falcon 74/81

Post  fulmar88 on Sun Jan 30, 2011 3:22 pm

Ken, The Falcon 74 (8e) was positive earth (and I assume earlier Falcons). The 81 (10e) changed to negative earth. I used a Falcon 74 loom to wire up my 81 and I think I only had to add one wire. Of course all of the earths are red so I do have to remember to connect the red lead to the negative side of the battery!

Im going to put a solid state rectifier into my 81's new loom as well Ken, it seems fairly straightforward to wire them up anyway, so it wont need to be earthed to the frame in the same way as the old plate ones?

I got it from Paul Goff, but it is the same one you posted a photo of a bit back with 4 connectors.

Yes but you can then choose the polarity. At least I think I can

Thanks Graham, the written instructions that came with the rectifier are as big as a bus ticket, I wonder now is there more to it then they suggest?
