Centre Stand

Post  Kelvin_20T on Tue 07 Dec 2010, 21:49

My James has a side stand, and I don't trust it at all I've almost dropped the bike twice now.

Did the Captain originally have a centre stand? if not, am I able to modify to get one on?

Centre stand

Post  John the bike on Mon 13 Dec 2010, 20:38

Hi Kelvin my James has a side stand and I have dropped mine, I was lucky it did no damage , the scren hit my BSA but it was covered up. The problem is if the bike is nudged forward it rolls off the stand, I have started to put a block of wood under the foot rest in the garage.
I did make a centre stand but it was a bit short and light weight, I removed it when trying to cure an oil leak on the gear box its still leaking.
I bought a FB centre stand at a jumble but does not fit and it seems a shame to cut it up so I would like to exchange it for a James one or sell it to buy one, Dont know what model its for it has a long hexigon bar for a stop.
I am told that Bantam John has some James centre stands but is hard to deal with. I managed to get a stand for the Cruiser not the correct one but it works and looks good,
I could make you bit of a drawing for a James stand if you want

Regards John

Centre Stand

Hi John

I saw a centre stand for a James/Francis barnett from Bantam John in Stafford, I was thinking about buying it, until I saw the price of 55!

If you could make me a diagram of the James stand I would be very grateful.
